A lottery solution worth millions of dollars may be worthless, even more terrifying than the price of Halloween candy.

But somewhere out there, the winner of an unclaimed Arizona Lottery prize is currently teetering on the line between rich or regretful. They’ll be $4.3 million richer as long as they claim their lottery winnings by Oct. 24. If they claim them in time and choose the lump-sum option, they can pocket $2 million.

The still-lucky winner purchased “The Pick” ticket on April 24 at MesaSafeway, located on Guadalupe and Alma School roads.

On April 27, the winning numbers were 9, 13, 18, 29, 32, and 34. Winners of the Arizona Lottery have 180 days to assert their prizes, but this one expires the following month. Therefore, according to Arizona laws, the money goes somewhere else.

Payouts from AZ lotteries that are unused

There are unused lottery tickets, occasionally in Arizona. In the Grand Canyon State in 2019, a winning solution for more than three times as many went unused. Instead of ending that December, that$ 14.6 million jackpot may have meant a very happy trip for someone and their loved ones.

GreggEdgar, the senior director of the Arizona Lottery, said:

We are often a little sad when we see one of these rewards expire unoccupied because there is nothing more thrilling for the Arizona Lottery than to give out an enormous prize and hellip. & rdquo,

Even this expired jackpot pales beside a $77 million Powerball prize that went unclaimed in Georgia in 2011. It stands as the largest unclaimed lottery prize ever.

There are more Arizona Lottery prizes waiting for their winners to claim them:

  • Powerball, drawn on May 14, expires on November 10 for$ 50, 000.
  • Mega Millions, drawn on July 19, expire on January 15 for$ 10, 000.
  • Powerball, drawn on July 25, expires on January 21.
  • Powerball, drawn on August 31, expires on February 27.
  • The Pick, which was drawn on September 17, expires on March 16.

Forgotten tickets, laundry, & lsquo, and money

Maybe the mystery winner has forgotten about their entry. Arizona Lottery public information officer John Gilliland told PlayInAZ that before working at the lottery office, he himself would forget to check his tickets.

However, he claimed that unclaimed prizes are almost always & ldquo due to a lost ticket or one that had been run through the laundry and was damaged beyond repair. He emphasized that these incidents are more likely to occur with casual players, & ldquo; serious lottery players; don’t lose their tickets or put them in danger of being damaged.

A few years after Virginia won a string of unused large-dollar prizes, drawing spokesman John Hagerty spoke with Lottery.com.

He claimed that those who typically don’t play the lottery might do so to increase their chances of winning a huge prize before forgetting to double-check their statistics. According to drawing professional Brett Jacobson, some people are unaware that there are extra prizes.

In another scenario, one may travel to a state while there is still money to be made but neglect about their seat when they return home. Or occasionally, individuals put off redeeming a sizable prize so they can supply themselves time to adjust to their newfound luck.

Unique situations pop up, too. For instance, in Oregon recently, a household’s two dogs chewed up a winning ticket overnight. That story had a tail-wagging ending since lottery employees successfully pieced the ticket back together.

Unused payouts from the Arizona Lottery go where?

The Arizona act outlines the fate of unused lottery dollars:

30 % is sent to the Court-appointed Special Advocates( CASA )
  • $ 250, 000 is donated to the Department of Education’s Tribal College Dual Education Program. The program offers funding so that ethnic high school students can enroll in college and earn school funds.
  • The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force receives$ 835,000

According to Gilliland, unclaimed money is player money in the Arizona Lottery & rsquo. & rdquo, Therefore, the remaining money from any unclaimed funds is used for new lottery games and second-chance drawings each year.

How to proceed if you win the lottery

The Arizona Lottery suggests each win, according to Gilliland:

  • To ensure that no one else can claim the winning ticket, mark it right away.
  • Maintain the winning ticket in a secure location.
  • If it & rsquo is a sizable jackpot, seek the advice of an advisor.

Gilliland made the observation that, in a sense, all wins when the payout is large. Lottery winners reinvest their earnings in the economy and pay tax on their winnings. & ldquo, It is so beneficial to the entire state. & rdquo,

We want people to succeed, take ownership of their life, andrdquo, he declared. People must first keep in mind that they bought a seat before checking their numbers in order to do that. If they don’t cash in their ticket, & ldquo, Can & rsquo will not be able to make a dream come true. & rdquo,
